Eric Richardson
Eric Richardson is currently serving as Strategic Mobility Advisor at the Transportation Practice Group at Windels Marx Lane and Mittendorf, Road Safety Advisor for Together for Safer Roads, and Co-Chair of the Health and Safety Committee for the International Association of Transportation Regulators. Following a 23-year career with the City of New York at the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services and nearly 11 years as NYC Deputy Chief Fleet Officer, Eric Richardson retired from city government in July 2024.
As Deputy Chief Fleet Officer, Mr. Richardson was a prominent advocate of road safety initiatives and served as the agency liaison to Mayor Adams’ Vision Zero task force. In this capacity, he collaborated with agencies such as the Department of Transportation, the Taxi and Limousine Commission, the NYC Police Department, NYC Health, and the Sheriff’s office to develop road safety strategies and reports. He also participated in the Vision Zero Data Working Group, the Fleet Working Group, and the Overnight Truck Parking Task Force, working with senior agency leadership, legal offices, City Hall, and the City Council on local laws and executive orders aimed at reducing transportation emissions and enhancing road safety.
Mr. Richardson played a pivotal role in establishing Safe Fleet Transition Plans for city fleet vehicles, private trade waste vehicles, and NYC public school buses. These plans initiated the largest truck sideguard program in North America, a surround camera program, and a globally recognized intelligent speed assistance (ISA) pilot. Through these efforts, the City of New York received grant funding from the US DOT Safe Streets For All program to expand ISA to thousands of city vehicles.
Additionally, Mr. Richardson coordinated city events related to safety and sustainability, such as the annual NYC Vision Zero forum, NYC Equipment and Vehicle Show, and various safety and sustainability forums and webinars. In May 2024, he collaborated with NASCAR, the NY Governors Traffic Safety Committee, and the New York City Public Schools on a safety awareness event that included over 400 high school students, NASCAR driver Ross Chastain, and various city and state agencies.
Currently, Mr. Richardson focuses on creating public-private partnerships and works with non-profit organizations and advocacy groups to promote best practices in sustainability and road safety. He also organizes and speaks at international conferences on the future of transportation mobility.
Eric Richardson has recently been honored with the “Freedom of the City of London” for his contributions to road safety.
